Fantasy Shows on Netflix: 10 Must-Watch Shows

No one can claim they don’t enjoy fantasy shows. I enjoy reading about wizards, elves, vampires, werewolves, and other fantastic beasts.

The fantasy series Stranger Things was the first genuinely successful original show from Netflix. So it makes sense that the streaming service has various fantasy shows available.

Best 10 Fantasy Shows on Netflix

And so I’d provide a rundown of some of Netflix’s most acclaimed and widely watched Fantasy shows for your viewing pleasure.

1. Shadow and Bone

Shadow and Bone

Shadow and Bone is one of my favorite favorites, the epic story of orphan mapmaker Alina Starkov, who releases an astonishing power that could change the fate of her world. The show is adapted from Leigh Bardugo’s novels Shadow and Bone and Six Crows. I greatly enjoy the show. The writing is decent, and the cast and characters are excellent. This can be considered one of the best Fantasy shows.

2. The Witcher

The Witcher

The Witcher is one of Netflix’s best shows, and it follows Geralt (Henry Cavill), a monster hunter who must find his place in a world where humans are frequently eviler than monsters. The show was conceived as a result of the success of the video game of the same name and was afterward based on the book series by Andrzej Sapkowski.

Even though the show is confusing because I haven’t played the game or read the novels, I’m immersed in it and can’t wait for season two. A prequel to the series, The Witcher: Blood Origin, is also in the works of the show’s creators. This is indeed a perfect one on the list of Fantasy shows.

3. Warrior Nun

Warrior Nun

This is the next item in the list of Fantasy shows on Netflix. An orphaned girl reluctantly becomes embroiled in a conflict between good and evil after awakening in a mortuary with a mystical ring on her back and the abilities it bestows.

This is a great program. It features an all-female ensemble and evokes Buffy the Vampire Slayer (once you get past the first couple of episodes, which feel like a completely different show from the rest of the season).

4. Locke & Key

Locke & Key

This is one of the best Original shows that you can watch. In Locke & Key, three siblings deal with the aftermath of their father’s murder after moving into a house where they unearth hidden magical keys that can perform extraordinary things. Season 2 has been a slog for me, but the show’s fantastical components have kept me watching. This is indeed one of the best Fantasy shows on Netflix.

5. Stranger Things

Stranger Things

Most people have seen Stranger Things by this point, but it wouldn’t be complete without it. Season 1 is still excellent and ranks among the finest of any Original television show.

The Duffer Brothers, Shawn Levy, and Dan Cohen, are responsible for creating and executive producing the American science fiction horror drama television series Stranger Things. The first season premiered on Netflix and was produced by Monkey Massacre Productions. The series was renewed for a fifth and final season in February 2022.

6. Lucifer

Lucifer

This is an extraordinary Fantasy show. A few months ago, the show’s five-year run ended. When Lucifer Morningstar comes to Earth to study humanity, he tags along. Unfortunately, his involvement in the case brings him into contact with Detective Chloe Decker Decker. Lucifer agrees to work with Chloe as a consultant for the LAPD.

As the show evolves into more of a procedural drama, it is not my favorite genre. Yet, I can see why this Fantasy show is so well-liked.

7. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

This is a great fantasy show to watch. The Archie Comics character Sabrina serves as the inspiration for this teen drama. Everything you’d expect from a story set in Salem, Massachusetts, includes witches, demons, animals, Satan, romance, and humor (like the original Sabrina the Teenage Witch series).

In 2014, Archie Horror, a division of Archie Comics, began publishing a comic book series called Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. This show offers a darker spin on the Sabrina the Teenage Witch universe and cast. Inspired by Roberto Aguirre-previous Sacasa’s Archie comic, Afterlife with Archie, it is written by Aguirre-Sacasa and drawn by Robert Hack.

8. Fate: The Winx Saga

Fate: The Winx Saga

This can be considered a very different Fantasy Show. The story of Fate: The Winx Saga follows a group of teenage girls as they attend a magical boarding school in the Otherworld, where they must learn to manage their magical skills while also dealing with love, rivalry, and monsters that threaten their very life.

Honestly, I didn’t know what to expect from this episode. It has all the trappings of a teen drama, but the bigger picture of what’s happening at the school was interesting—not expecting that twist at the end of Season 1.

9. Cursed

Cursed

In Cursed, Katherine Langford plays Nimue, a young sorcerer who meets a young Arthur on her mission to find a powerful and ancient sword. This show was enjoyable, but unfortunately, it only lasted one season before being terminated due to low ratings. It looks like a simplified version of The Witcher that is only tangentially connected to the legend of King Arthur. This can be considered a very different Fantasy Show.

10. The Irregulars

The Irregulars

The Irregulars was another fantasy show that lasted only one season before being canceled. It portrayed a gang of orphaned youths in Victorian London as they were coerced into solving crimes for Doctor Watson and his mysterious business partner, the enigmatic Sherlock Holmes.

Not only did the show not live up to my expectations, but it also took a disappointing turn. Yet, the acting and overall idea were also highlights for me. If it had been written correctly, it would have been a smash.

Final Words

We have seen some critical Fantasy shows on Netflix. Fantasy shows thrive on television because the medium’s episodic nature allows for the gradual unveiling of intricate mythology and universes.

These shows enchant their audiences by placing them in unfamiliar worlds with their peculiar laws, factions, and characters and keeping them on the edge of their seats with a never-ending supply of narrative twists, many of which are powered by the evil plotting of formidable antagonists. Moreover, you can also listen, watch, and feel the bollywood songs‘ all-time favorites.

The above is a collection of intriguing fantasy Original shows that will satisfy your need for escapism. These shows highlight the genre’s broad appeal, spanning the spectrum from kid-friendly animation to dark, adult narratives full of nightmare-inducing monsters.
